Graphics Facilitation in Business - Case Studies
The following are just some examples of how graphics facilitation has helped our clients. We also have case studies for:
The National School of Government August 2005
The main focus for this programme was to introduce Graphix Facilitation to the Trainers and Facilitators at the National School of Government, through a half day workshop.
The afternoon was built on two main topics; the first was to introduce the delegates to the techniques of drawing and the second was to focus on how to communicate visually by using graphix as a language. This enabled the delegates to take away ideas and creations from the workshop that could be put into practice the very next day.
Our objectives were to:
provide the delegates with the tools and technical knowledge of drawing such as; How to break objects down, use of line, shading, grounding, using pastel and an introduction to perspective. With these new skills the delegates would then be able to communicate key messages graphically - through theory and exploration.
give them the opportunity to extend their presentation and facilitation techniques at the same time as appealing to the diverse learning styles of their audiences.
Topics included:
The Components of Drawing:
Some of the best bits were:
- Applying the techniques in practice
- Learning to draw with the flip chart pens - properly
- Breaking objects down into simple shapes
- Hints and tips
- Learning the specific techniques and then having a go
Communicating through Graphix
Using difficult messages that had to be represented by visuals only was a good way of highlighting the importance of generic images. Through experimentation and discussion the group began to create their own visual vocabulary.
The outcomes
With a technical understanding of how objects can be broken down into manageable chunks and with the knowledge of line, shading and perspective everyone found they can draw!
The learning was applied at the end of the session when the delegates were invited to create some visuals that could illustrate models that they frequently use in their training sessions or ideas of how they could spice up their flip charts! Action plans were made and each delegate had something to put in place when they returned to work.
Throughout the afternoon the delegates were encouraged to learn from each others feedback. The atmosphere was relaxed and the delegates supported and encouraged each other which accelerated the learning.
The walls were covered with the work they had produced throughout the workshop and showed the significant improvements in their ability and confidence to draw.
Peterborough City Council
The main focus for this programme was to introduce Graphix Facilitation to the council's training teams. The trainers were from a large cross section of the business, from corporate trainers to adult/children's social care trainers. The main aim was to provide them all with a conducive environment to learn the skill of drawing through theory and exploration. This would give them the opportunity to extend the range of some of their current material.
Topics included: Gardner's intelligences, accelerated learning, drawing the basics and perspective, communicating through graphics and applying the learning.
The day maintained a high energy feel and created both interest and excitement. All of the delegates drawing skills had improved significantly by the end of the programme. The day was most enjoyable and is reflected in the feedback.
